The executive order, issued March 15 by Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, extends the deadline to apply for some property tax exemptions from April 1 to the municipality's commitment date or 30 days after the declared emergency ends, whichever comes first. The commitment date is the date on which the municipal assessor sends the taxable property list to the municipal tax collector.
The extension applies to property tax exemptions for property of institutions and organizations, veterans' estates, solar and wind energy equipment, homesteads and business equipment.
