In the order, signed Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the suspension of penalties and interest for individuals and businesses that file returns up to three months past the deadline for a tax of up to $1 million. The suspension applies to taxes and fees due from the date of the order through July 31.
The order also extends the statute of limitations for claiming refunds and the deadline for filing administrative tax appeals by 60 days for businesses unable to file a timely claim or appeal due to the state of emergency for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, a respiratory disease.
