In a statement issued Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he would postpone the state income tax filing deadline by three months, mirroring the relief for federal returns offered by the Internal Revenue Service days after the agency extended the payment deadline in response to the novel coronavirus.
In a separate statement issued Sunday, the Department of Revenue clarified that while it will waive late filing penalties for returns filed by the new deadline, interest still applies to deferred income tax payments because waivers for interest are barred by state law.
