The President’s Award recognizes a layer who demonstrates leadership as well as excellence and a commitment to promoting women in law. Matas earned the award for her dedication to reducing barriers to access to justice while also being a tireless advocate for her clients, a mentor and a teacher.
An experienced litigator in personal injury and professional liability, Matas has focused her practice on representing survivors of sexual violence and defending regulated health-care providers against various allegations. She also represents clients in defamation cases and has represented individuals before various tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.
