Law360 Canada ( October 12, 2023, 6:44 AM EDT) -- Application by the Crown to have Hashi declared a dangerous offender. Hashi was charged with a series of offences related to a vicious attack on Kamaldin in her apartment, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, choking, unlawful confinement and uttering a threat to cause death. The two were casual acquaintances. Kamaldin knew Hashi through a friend and from seeing him around in the building, and she appeared to have let Hashi into her apartment. Hashi behaved rationally after the attack. He left when Kamaldin managed to get a phone to call for help. Surveillance video showed that he took a circuitous route both when leaving the building and leaving the area of the building. Hashi was born in Somalia. He came from a large and wealthy family. Hashi was a very hyper child who had difficulty concentrating. After arriving in Canada, Hashi attended school. He spoke English, Somali and some Arabic and Swedish. Hashi worked as a taxi driver and dispatcher. Since being returned to Canada, Hashi had either been in prison or probation. Hashi struggled with alcohol and drug abuse.
