B.C. provincial court begins recovery of some court operations

Law360 Canada (April 30, 2020, 3:58 PM EDT) -- The B.C. provincial court is beginning to take steps to move towards a full reopening after suspending operations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of its COVID-19 recovery plan, the court says it is now introducing mandatory pretrial conferences for most adult and youth criminal trials and preliminary inquires, as well as for family and small claims trials. The court is also making telephone sentencing hearings available for some non-urgent, out-of-custody matters and resuming case conferences in family and small claims cases by telephone or videoconference.
