Public Interest Firm Adds K&L Gates Ex-Partner As Managing Atty

The Fairness Center, a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based nonprofit legal services organization representing public-sector union employees against union officials, has expanded its leadership team this week by adding a former K&L Gates partner as a managing attorney.

Anthony R. Holtzman has joined the Fairness Center as managing attorney in its Harrisburg office, the organization announced Tuesday. He previously practiced at K&L Gates in Harrisburg, where he represented clients in litigation matters such as property rights disputes, government agency enforcement actions and challenges to permits.

"I am delighted to bring my knowledge and experience to the Fairness Center, which performs a vital function in our society by zealously defending the rights of individuals who are harmed by public-sector union officials," said Holtzman. "I eagerly anticipate joining this team of talented litigators to help carry out the Fairness Center's important mission."

As managing attorney for the Fairness Center, Holtzman will oversee and participate in litigation activities in federal and state courts, as well as administrative tribunals. The organization will draw upon his years of experience litigating constitutional, statutory and regulatory disputes.

In 2023, for example, Holtzman was part of the K&L Gates team representing coal industry groups objecting to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's attempt to have the state join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. They successfully argued that the DEP overstepped its authority by joining the regional cap-and-trade program without approval from the General Assembly.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Tony to our firm," said Nathan McGrath, president and general counsel of the Fairness Center, in a statement. "His years of experience providing high-level legal representation will be an immediate boon for our clients."

Holtzman earned his law degree from Penn State University's Dickinson College of Law in 2002.

The Fairness Center is a nonprofit law firm that provides legal services to individuals seeking legal claims against public sector union officials. Their clients include teachers, firefighters, municipal employees and corrections officers with complaints such as union retaliation, unfair representation or corruption.
